Goondiwindi: Things To See
& Do
|
Gunsynd the
"Goondiwindi Grey"
Goondiwindi's
most famous celebrity is, for those not familiar with
Australian racing scene, the grey racehorse Gunsynd,
who won eternal fame during the 70s for his amazing
29 wins. Even today, he is considered one of Queensland's
top icons, and his statue in Apex Park still draws visitors
who remember his glory days.

Customs House Museum
This modest
three room cottage on the northern bank of the Macintyre
River was built in 1850 and was once a major stopping-point
in the area, as it was used to collect tax on goods
crossing between Queensland and New South Wales. Nowadays,
the Customs House, and the Martha House next door, are
visited mostly to see the kind of house and lifestyle
common in the area during that era.

Outdoor Activities
The generally
quiet nature of the town is more than made up for by
the plethora of outdoor activities it offers in the
surrounding country. Whatever your preferred activity
- fishing, swimming, bushwalking, bird watching, river
cruising and so on - there's sure to be somewhere within
easy reach of the town where you can indulge in it.
