Summer Festival

28 December - 7 January

The Hobart Summer Festival celebrates Hobart’s heritage, with a wide assortment of activities, performances, heritage shows and of course, good food.

 

AAMI Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival

29 January - 26 February

Rapidly becoming one of the most prestigious horse-racing events in Australia.

 

Clarence by the Water Jazz Festival

19 - 24 February

Tasmania’s single biggest jazz event attracts some of the best jazz players in Australia, as well as Tasmania’s own top jazz musicians.

 

National Pennyfarthing Championships

23 February

A traditional colonial country fair with dancing, music and street entertainers. The main feature is the Penny Farthing races, when both local and international participants vie for the National Championship title on those big-wheeled bicycles.

 

ITU Hobart International Triathlon

17 February

Australian and international athletes come to Tasmania each year to compete, with Hobart's historic waterfront forming its backdrop.

 

Australian Wooden Boat Festival

8 - 9 March

Every two years, Hobart’s historic waterfront sees hundreds of wooden boats going on display for three days, keeping alive the love and memory of wooden boats, their beauty and their history.

 

Australian Three Peaks Race

21 March

Australia’s ultimate endurance challenge of sailing and running in a non-stop challenge, participants undertake four days of non-stop sailing around Tasmania’s East Coast.

 

Targa Tasmania

15 - 20 April

Targa Tasmania has grown to become one of the world’s true classic motor sport events, with invitation-only teams taking part in a six-day tarmac rally with competitive stages on closed roads.

 

Tasmanian Living Writers' Week

8 - 17 August

Local, national and international writers of exceptional wit and talent all descend upon Hobart to take part in this excellent literary festival, with numerous activities aimed at keeping the love of literature alive, fuelled by plenty of food and wine.

 

Blooming Tasmania

1 September - 31 May 2009

Blooming Tasmania is a series of statewide events celebrating Tasmania’s botanical diversity. It guides visitors on a journey of garden experiences.

 

Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race

26 December

Regarded as one of the world’s greatest ocean racing classics, it is a 630 nautical mile race southwards. The leaders in the race arrive in Hobart in time for New Year’s Eve festivities.
