The Sydney Festival

5 - 26 January

The 2006 Sydney Festival ran for three weeks from January 7 to Australia Day, January 26, and featured local and international theatre, music, dance, multi-disciplinary and visual arts. Some festival events continued beyond January 26.

 

Mardi Gras Parade and Party

9 February - 1 March

The New Mardi Gras Parade and Party - Sydney's annual Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade is the world's most glamorous civil rights protest. The costume parade celebrating gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer culture is now in its 29th year and attracts hundreds of thousands of people to the pink heart of Sydney on the first Saturday in March.

 

Sydney St Patrick's Day Parade and Family Day

16 March

St Patrick's Day celebrations begin with the Street Parade followed by a day of entertainment and fun for the whole family at Hyde Park.

 

Sydney Royal Easter Show

20 March – 2 April

Sydney Royal Easter Show is an annual extravaganza including some of the latest and most heart-stopping carnival rides, rodeo events, motorcycle and skateboarding stunts, livestock races, wood chopping competitions, diving (if not flying) pigs, a variety of parades, fashion shows, food stalls of various kinds, and a showcase of new and popular products.

 

The Greek Festival of Sydney

29 - 30 March

Expecting more than 250,000 people, this year's celebration marks the Greek Independence Day (March 25) will also include the Greek Independence Day March, dancing groups, stand-up comedy, children's' activities, musical performances, mouth watering Greek delicacies and special guests.

 

Hoopla Acrobatic & Street Theatre Festival

14 - 17 April

Throughout the four day festival, the Hoopla showcases some of the world's best circus and acrobatic acts as they juggle, abseil, do aerial stunts, plate-spinning, trampoline, stilt walking and much more.

 

Sydney Film Festival

4 - 22 June

The Sydney Film Festival is Australia's International film event of the year, showcasing contemporary cinema from Australia and around the world.
 

Cronulla Spring Festival

13 - 14 September

The Cronulla Spring Festival is a two day event featuring more than 100 market stalls, entertainment on stage and is fun for all ages. Stalls include food, fashion and eclectic items from Cronulla businesses and outside traders.
