Hohensalzburg Fortress

The major landmark in Salzburg and accessible by funicular, this brooding Romanesque fortress overlooking the city is the site of some of the city's most colourful festivals and cultural events.

Residenz Palace

One of the most significant buildings of Salzburg, this was once used by the princes for entertainment purposes for centuries, most notably hosting Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who    played regularly for the royalty in the State rooms. The Residenz Gallery, an art collection in       the royal tradition, is also located on the 2nd floor.

Mirabell Garden & Castle

Built for the mistress of a prince, it now houses the mayor's office (the baroque staircase leading   to it must be seen to be believed) as well as a small public library, art museum (baroque paintings) and an orangery with a sampling of plants from other lands.

Salzburg Cathedral

The original cathedral of Salzburg,was built in 774 by St. Virgil.After the fire in 1.598 the recostruction of cathedral commenced in 1614. This cathedral is considered as the most

impressive early Baroque edifice north of the Alps.

 

 


Hellbrunn Palace (Schloss Hellbrunn)

Renowned in Europe for being one of the most beautiful examples of renaissance buildings

north of the Alps, the estate is equally famous for the sneaky humour which went into the

design of the spacious park surrounding the palace, in particular its trick fountains.
