Grote Market
Antwerp’s main town square is the heart
of the city. Surrounded by ancient guild halls and the charming Town
Hall, the square is considered the most beautiful in the city and is a
popular starting point for many visitors to the city.

Groenplaats
The most popular square in Antwerp, it is dominated by the
magnificent Our Lady’s Cathedral. Numerous restaurants and cafes line
the square and many of the buildings are architectural jewels, making it
a pleasant place to dine, stroll and relax.

The Meir
The most famous shopping street in the city. Free from motorized
traffic, the avenue is a pleasant place to stroll, with historic buildings
interspersed between the commercial houses. The most prominent is the former
residence of the Belgian Kings, situated at no. 50.

Antwerp Harbour
Antwerp’s livelihood depends on its harbour, for despite being an inland
city, the Scheldt is so immense ocean liners and tankers can sail right up
to the city. Boat tours of the harbour can be taken, to give visitors an
interesting insight to the workings of one of Europe’s biggest and busiest
ports.

Den Rhijn
Once housed in this splendid residence was
the Old Stock Exchange. The building was first in the world to be
specifically build for such a purpose, and it is preserved for both its
historic value and its worth as an architectural masterpiece.

House of Peter Rubens
Antwerp’s greatest and most famous painters
resided at this house from the time he returned from Italy until his
death in 1640. It is considered one of the most elegant
Renaissance-Baroque Houses of the Low Countries.

Zurenborg
This small section of the Berchem suburb is famed for its incredible mixture of architectural styles and is regularly praised or condemned in the art world. Some of the most fantastical facades in Antwerp can be found here.
