The Venetian Famagusta Gate

Built in 1570, these ancient walls form a perfect circle around the heart of the city, with eleven heart-shaped bastioned spaced at regular intervals. This particular gate is most famous of all, as it is the best restored and now serves as the Lefkosia (Nicosia) Municipal Cultural Centre.

The Presidential Palace

Built in 1930, this is the finest architectural monument from the British period and has been painstakingly restored to its original splendour.

St John’s Cathedral

Built in 1662 by Archbishop Nikiforos, this cathedral is prized for its iconostasis of carved wood covered with gold leaf and magnificent double-headed eagles.

Cyprus Archaeological Museum

Originally built in 1908 as a tribute to Queen Victoria, this museum has an international reputation for its excellent collection dating all the way back the the Neolithic period. There are artefacts from practically every major civilization here, testament to Cyprus' importance in past days.
