Moulid of Abu el-Haggag

2 weeks prior to the beginning of Ramadhan

This lively street festival is held every year before the advent of the Ramadan fasting month, and celebrates the city's patron Sheikh with music, races, dance, feasting and most spectacularly, a parade of boats through the city streets!

Pharaoh Wedding Festival

15 - 20 October

Held twice every year, this unique festival involves a set number of couples being permitted to marry in true Pharaonic style in the Temple of Karnak.
