Meeting Santa Claus
Visitors can meet
Santa Claus at his village just 10 km north of Rovaniemi.
There's a wonderfully snug cottage, a surprisingly high-tech
present operation (complete with elves), a post office where you
can get letters stamped 'Santa Claus, North Pole' and of course,
the requisite picture with Santa himself. Very popular with the
young (and not so young)!

The Northern Lights (Revontulet)
Rovaniemi is one of
the best and easiest places to see the Aurora Borealis, or
Northern Lights, as they are visible for up to 200 nights of the
year. Definitely one of the highlights of a visit to the city!

Cruise on the Kemijoki
River
One of the more
popular activities in Rovaniemi, there are plenty of operators
offering scenic boat rides up and down the river, and many even
combine it with a visit to a reindeer farm - not to be missed if
possible!

Arktikum
This centre actually
has three functions - one as a proper research centre on the
Arctic environment, another as a museum for Lapland and third as
a museum for the Arctic itself. Much of the centre is
underground, and there are high-tech exhibitions about
everything from reindeer to the northern lights and even a
garden of arctic plants. A great place to learn more about the
North.
