Palais des Papes
Once considered 'the
most beautiful and powerful mansion in the world' for being the
court of the Avignon Papacy during the 14th century, the Palais
des Papes is today a major attraction for its beauty and former
connection to power. Visitors come to view the Pope's Bedroom,
with its magnificent frescos, the Grande Audience Hall, and the
other opulent rooms opened to the public.

Cathédrale
Notre-Dame des Doms
This huge 12 century
cathedral built in the Provencal Romanesque style is a popular
attraction, both for its size and for its fame as the last
resting place of some of the popes who once governed from the
Avignon 'Vatican of the North'. Visitors can also climb to the
summit of the tower for a magnificent view of Avignon.

Le Pont St Benezet
Another popular
attraction, this charming bridge is best known for its
connection to the song “Sur le pont d’Avignon, on y danse, on y
danse” (On the Bridge of Avignon, they dance, they dance);
nowadays you can't actually dance on the bridge, since most of
it was washed away in 1660, but being on the bits that remain
still offers lovely views of the city, and access to the only
accessible part of the city walls.
