Düsseldorf,
Germany
Düsseldorf, a capital
city and an economic hub of Germany, is a place to look out for.
Strategically situated over the Rhine, Düsseldorf currently is home to more
than ten thousand people! Düsseldorf makes for the perfect travel
destination for its events such as fashion and trade fairs. If you are
heading to Düsseldorf plan for a shopping spree because such events are the
best places to get great deals. If you have missed out, visit the
Königsallee or better known as Kö by the locals, for its luxury retail
shopping as well as large departmental stores.
Not a big fan of shopping? Düsseldorf is a great place for arts and culture.
Düsseldorf encompasses traditional, avant-garde and new age culture scenes,
so art fans would be spoilt for choice here. Head on over to the Deutsche
Oper am Rhein (opera), and the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus (theatre) to get
a taste of fine arts in Dusseldorf. Most of the world’s state-of-the-art
collections are held in these buildings.
Music plays a very big part in Düsseldorf life, from traditional opera to
new age power metal bands, nightlife in the city is a memorable one. Do take
time to visit a popular nightlife destination, Bolkerstraße, where one can
meet people from all walks of life! If you are looking for something low key
but still want to enjoy your night out, head to Ratinger Straße where most
locals frequent.
Besides that, other notable spots in the city are Altstadt where half of the
population of Düsseldorf lives . Altstadt has over 300 bars as well as the
longest bar in the world! When in Altstadt make sure you visit the Basilica
St. Lambertus; a favourite amongst locals and tourists. Soak in the
post-modern part of the city by heading over to the Düsseldorf-Hafen harbour.
The harbour is a popular lifestyle destination where the famous Monkey’s
Island bar is located and where the largest cinemas in the city are found.
There are several hotels situated around the area as well. To better
associate yourself, the harbour is also known as the media hub for media
centres such as radio stations. CNN has one of their headquarters in the
area.
Worried about eating in Düsseldorf? Well the food here is certainly not for
the faint-hearted. One of the popular local meals here consists of horsemeat
that is pickled for a few days! However do not be disheartened because their
desserts are even better. A Düsseldorf speciality called 'Sky and Earth' is
made out of black pudding mixed with mashed potatoes and apples. Doesn’t
that sound tempting? While all that is being prepared, sip Düsseldorf famous
drink Altbier which happens to be brewed locally.
Just before heading to bed, why not listen to some stories on the popular
Rhine-Romantic Route? Tales and legends of the city are told in this tour.
Anecdotes about famous personalities from the city are also recounted.
