Dusseldorf Karneval

2 - 6 February

The highlight of the year is the Karneval, or Carnival, period, when the city erupts with street parties both spontaneous and planned, and all manner of tomfoolery can be expected.

 

Night of the Museums

19 April

On this night every year, the people of Dusseldorf can enjoy the exhibits in the city's museums for free (or nearly free) throughout the day and night.

 

Dusseldorf Jazz Rally

9 - 11 May

Jazz fans from around the country flock to the city to enjoy the heavenly sound of jazz during this annual festival.

 

Biggest Funfair on the Rhine

12 - 20 July

One of the bigger fairs in the country, over two million people come to the city to enjoy the rides, foods and other entertainments available during this funfair.

 

Christmas Market

26 November - 21 December

Dusseldorf's Christmas market comes in two parts, the Nikolaus market in the Altstadt and another centred on Schadowplatz. It features a wide variety of craft items, ornaments and gifts is on sale from stalls that line the narrow winding streets. Cinnamon cakes and mulled red wine are an indispensable part of celebrations, along with the festively-decorated shop windows and the Christmas entertainment.
