Essen Cathedral
Located in the heart of the city, the
cathedral is lovely example of classical Gothic architecture.
The Domschatzkammer is connected and houses treasures found at the
Cathedral.

Gruga
This centrally located botanical
garden is a popular place during summer, particular the pool complex.
There is also a little train which you can board to sightsee the grounds
in comfort.

Villa Hugel
This mansion on the road
to Bredeney is a great place to visit and housed famous industrial
tycoon, Alfred Krupps family. The interior is dominated by dark wood and
there is a lovely park surrounding the Villa.

Zeche Zollverein
Located in Europe’s
largest coalmine, this museum is interesting not only for its location
but for its showcasing of modern German designs of everyday items.

Margarethenhohe District
This area is
charming for its unique architecture, a legacy of the efforts of
prominent citizen Margarethe Krupp to house poor workers with style.

Lake Baldeney
This is a beautiful lake
fed by the River Ruhr, with paths for long lazy walks. The lake is large
enough for yachting or rowing. There are forests around the lake and it
is possible to hire out a boat. Located near Villa Hugel and reached by
bus No 6. |
