Essen Cathedral

Located in the heart of the city, the cathedral is lovely example of classical Gothic architecture.

The Domschatzkammer is connected and houses treasures found at the Cathedral.

Gruga

This centrally located botanical garden is a popular place during summer, particular the pool complex. There is also a little train which you can board to sightsee the grounds in comfort.

Villa Hugel

This mansion on the road to Bredeney is a great place to visit and housed famous industrial tycoon, Alfred Krupps family. The interior is dominated by dark wood and there is a lovely park surrounding the Villa.

Zeche Zollverein

Located in Europe’s largest coalmine, this museum is interesting not only for its location but for its showcasing of modern German designs of everyday items.

Margarethenhohe District

This area is charming for its unique architecture, a legacy of the efforts of prominent citizen Margarethe Krupp to house poor workers — with style.

Lake Baldeney

This is a beautiful lake fed by the River Ruhr, with paths for long lazy walks. The lake is large enough for yachting or rowing. There are forests around the lake and it is possible to hire out a boat. Located near Villa Hugel and reached by bus No 6.
