Essen Airport Transfer Information
Car, taxi and rail transfer information from Düsseldorf Airport and Frankfurt am Main Airport to Essen city centre.

Düsseldorf Airport Transfer
Düsseldorf airport is located 27 kilometers from the city centre.

Car — Upon exiting the airport, turn into the A52 and turn south to reach Essen. Take the Essen-Bredeney exit onto motorway A40, then the Essen Stadmitte (city centre) exit. The journey takes about 20 mins.

Taxi — Taxi ranks are located outside Arrival Hall exits A and C. Fare is about EUR 40 and journey time is about 20 mins.

Rail — The airport railway station (Flughafen Terminal bahnhof) is located at a distance from the terminal; take the Skytrain or a free shuttle bus to get to the station. There are a number of train services available from this station; a ‘Zone C’ ticket can be used on S-bahn, RE and IR trains. The trains go directly to the Essen main train station (Essen hauptbahnhof) and runs once every hour. Travel time is 40 mins and fare is about EUR 9 for coach class, EUR 10 for first class. You’ll need to validate (time-stamp) your ticket before boarding the train.

 

Frankfurt am Main Airport Transfer

Frankfurt Airport is located approximately 250 km from Essen city centre.

Rail — The train station is located in the basement of the airport. There are a number of train services available; the faster Intercity (IC) trains and the slower but cheaper suburban S-Bahn service. Trains depart once an hour and take about 2 - 3 hrs to reach Essen, depending on choice of service. Tickets cost about EUR 60 for the S-Bahn; IC charges a supplement.
