Munich's main square, the large expanse is a popular gathering place for locals, especially as it

is bordered by little cafes and the charming façade of the Rathaus, or Town Hall.

 


 

New Town Hall (Rathaus)

One of the most famous landmarks in Munich for its affervescent stone decorations, it is popular

for its famous Glockenspiel, with its charming clock-work figures coming out three times a day.

Munich's most popular open air market is only a short distance from the Marienplatz. Apart from

the innumerable fresh food stalls which give the market its name, it is best known for the many colourful cultural and folkloristic events which are held here every month

Residenz

For centuries the residence of Bavarian kings, this magnificent palace is one of the most

beautiful buildings in the country, the highlight of which must be the Antiquarium, the largest

and most beautiful Renaissance hall north of the Alps.

Neuschwanstein

Probably one of the biggest attractions in Germany is this fairy-tale castle. Built by "mad" King Ludwig II and amazingly modern for its time, this enchanting vision is familiar to millions as the inspiration behind Walt Disney's famous castle.

Alte Pinakothek Art Museum

The Alte Pinakothek has a collection of artworks from the 14th to the 18th Centuries, including works by Durer, Rembrandt and Brueghel.
