Potsdam: Things To See & Do

Sans Souci Palace
This was the dream palace of
Frederick II, a great Prussian King who was an avid supporter of the
arts. The grounds are over 1 square miles in size and has as its
centerpiece the Palace, with a dome, a grand Marble Hall and a gaily
decorated music salon.

Bildergalerie
The picture gallery houses a
collection of 125 paintings from the Italian Renaissance, baroque, and
also examples of Dutch and Flemish Masters.

Orangerie
Built to house tropical plants
through the winter months. It has five decorated salons and a collection
of Raphael’s paintings.

Neues Palace
Built after the end of the Seven
Years War, it features a Hall of Shells with fossils and semiprecious
stones, and the palace theatre, which is still in use for concerts
between April and November.

Scloss Cecilienhof
Styled after an English
country house, it was the residence of Crown Prince Wilhelm, son of
Kaiser Wilhelm II, from 1917 until 1945. It was the site of the historic
Potsdam Conference, which was the final summit meeting of the leaders of
the World War II allied powers.
