The Agra Fort
It was
here where Shah Jehan, having been imprisoned by his own son
Aurangzeb, had spent his last days gazing out of the fort's
window at Taj Mahal, the majestic mausoleum he had built for
his late wife. This powerful fortress of red sandstone
encompasses, within its 2.5-km-long enclosure walls, the
imperial city of the Mughal rulers.

Fatehpur Sikri (City of
Victory)
Built during
the second half of the 16th century by the Emperor Akbar,
Fatehpur Sikri was the capital of the Mughal Empire for only
some 10 years. The complex of monuments and temples, all in a
uniform architectural style, includes one of the largest mosques
in India, the Jama Masjid. It remained untouched for over 400
years now and its palaces are a remainder of the extravagance of
the Mughals.
