|
Lake Como
Also known as Lago di Como,
the lake itself is Como's major attraction, both for its scenic beauty
and the cruises and water sports available on it. The lake is actually
made up of three individual lakes, which joins the four towns of Bellaggio, Tremezzo, Menaggio
and Varenna - which are themselves popular for day trips from Como.

|
The Cathedral of
St. Mary of the Assumption
Como's cathedral is a popular
attraction for its dome, one of the few churches in Switzerland to have this
feature, and the richly decorated interior, with it gold leafing detailing
and carving, a far cry from the more austere ecclesiastical buildings in the
rest of the country.
|
|
Piazza Del Duomo
This square centering on the
Cathedral is the city's main get-together spot, with plenty of cafes for
people watching and shops to browse in.
|
|
Como Old Town
The historic quarter of Como is
a popular place for a lazy ramble on a carefree summer afternoon, with its
narrow, winding streets, and tall, pastel coloured buildings, cafes and tiny
shops.

Alessandro Volta
Centre of Scientific Culture
This centre dedicated to the
famous scientist, who came from Como, is located incongruously enough in the
Villa Olmo, one of the most opulent buildings in the town.
