Sapporo Snow Festival

5 - 11 February

This international event held at Odori Park showcases hundreds of spectacular snow statues and ice sculptures, with a Snow Statue Competition where international teams compete against each other to come up with the best snow scupture for the year. Hokkaido Jingu Matsuri

June (tba)

Also known as `Sapporo Matsuri' or `The Shrine Festival', this is one of the major festivals of Sapporo held at the start of summer over 3 days, consisting of a procession of floats with traditional musicians and portable shrines, with a multitude of stalls offering food and drinks throughout the festival.

 

Pacific Music Festival

5 - 31 July

An international music festival that aims to promote and develop music culture through musical education and the cultivation of aspiring young musicians.

 

Sapporo Summer Festival

June - August

Held at Odori Park, The Sapporo Summer Festival is to Japan what the Oktober Fest is to Germany, where the park is transformed into a massive beer garden. There are concerts and entertainment activities staged throughout the month, as well as a funfair and stalls selling all types of food and beverages including okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake) and takoyaki (pieces of octopus fried in batter).

 

Susukino Festival

August (tba)

Held at the Susukino area, this festival is filled with stalls offering a variety of delicacies, street vendors and portable shrine processions, including a must-see procession of courtesans.

 

Foodland Hokkaido

September (tba)

Held at Odori Park, original cuisine incorporating local Hokkaido ingredients can be sampled at various locations in downtown Sapporo during this event.

 

Linkage-Up Festival

September (tba)

Odori Park turns into one big marketplace during this festival, where regional and seasonal delicacies from all over Hokkaido can be enjoyed, with performances and activities for the whole family. 

 

Sapporo Art Stage

1 - 30 November

During this month-long art and culture campaign in Sapporo, live theater and musical performances can be enjoyed in a rich cultural atmosphere.

 

Sapporo White Illumination

November - January (tba)

From late November to the middle of January every year, the trees of Odori Park are illuminated with small lights in a multitude of colours, creating a spectacular view of the park at night.
