Minato Mirai
Literally designed to be
'the harbour of the future', as its name implies, this city district is
mostly offices hotels, shopping centres and parks, but all designed with
a monochrome-gray futuristic theme that would be at home in any Japanese
mecha-anime. The area is home to some of Yokohama's most prominent
establishments, including the Yokohama Museum of Art, the Maritime
Museum and the Landmark Tower, one of the tallest buildings in Japan and
the best place to go for a bird's eye view of the city.

Waterfront
Promenade
Running from the futuristic Minato Mirai 21 district to the Yokohama
waterfront, this promenade takes visitors past some of the liveliest
attractions in the city, most notably the hip Red Brick Warehouses,
where the most fashion-conscious locals dine in high-class restaurants
and stylish boutiques. The promenade terminates at the Yamashita Park.

Yamashita Park
Japan's first seaside park
was first begun after the devastating 1923 earthquake which destroyed
much of the city. The park is popular with locals as a recreational
spot. The park is also interesting for history buffs, as it is where the
Hikawa-Maru, one of the few Japanese ships to survive the World
War, is berthed and now serves as a museum. It is especially popular
during summer, as a sprawling beer garden is opened on the top deck. For
culture buffs, the park is also home to a Silk Museum and a Yokohama
Doll Museum.
