National Museum

The entire history of the Lithuanian people is chronicled here, from the simplest everyday objects

of the 13th century to artifacts from the war with Napolean. Ongoing archeological excavations

add more attractions every year.

Sts. Peter & Paul's Church

Commissioned in the 17th century by Michael Casimir Pac, Grand Hetman of the Lithuanian

armies, this church is famed for its breathtaking Baroque interior, with over 2,000 figures

gracing the vaults and a spectacular chandelier illuminating the scene.

Vilnius Cathedral

Built in the 15th century on the site of what is thought to be the first Christian church in the

country, the cathedral houses the sarcophagus of St Casimir, the patron saint of Lithuania and

is considered one of the country's national treasures.

Hill of Three Crosses

Said to symbolize Lithuanian mourning and hope, the crosses are tied to an ancient legend of

seven Franciscan monks who were crucified on this spot for their faith. A lovely view of the Old Town can also be seen from the hill.

KGB Museum

Chilling and sometimes brutally grim, this museum gives an intimate glimpse of the dark side

of the Soviet occupation. Apart from the more traditional displays, the prison is still open to

visitors - including the torture chambers.

Paneriai

This small museum a few kilometres southwest of the Old Town at Agrasty is difficult to find,

but is a vivid memorial to a monumental crime: the massacre of 100,000 civilians by the Nazis during the war.
