Higher Castle Museum
Built by the Grand Duke Vytautas in the 13th century and once used as a prison for the ruling classes, much of this legendary building was destroyed during the Russian occupation. Now
visitors come to take the funicular to the top of the highest tower, for the spectacular views
across the city.

National Museum
The entire history of the Lithuanian people is chronicled here, from the simplest everyday objects
of the 13th century to artifacts from the war with Napolean. Ongoing archeological excavations
add more attractions every year.

Sts. Peter & Paul's Church
Commissioned in the 17th century by Michael Casimir Pac, Grand Hetman of the Lithuanian
armies, this church is famed for its breathtaking Baroque interior, with over 2,000 figures
gracing the vaults and a spectacular chandelier illuminating the scene.

Vilnius Cathedral
Built in the 15th century on the site of what is thought to be the first Christian church in the
country, the cathedral houses the sarcophagus of St Casimir, the patron saint of Lithuania and
is considered one of the country's national treasures.

Hill of Three Crosses
Said to symbolize Lithuanian mourning and hope, the crosses are tied to an ancient legend of
seven Franciscan monks who were crucified on this spot for their faith. A lovely view of the Old Town can also be seen from the hill.

KGB Museum
Chilling and sometimes brutally grim, this museum gives an intimate glimpse of the dark side
of the Soviet occupation. Apart from the more traditional displays, the prison is still open to
visitors - including the torture chambers.

Paneriai
This small museum a few kilometres southwest of the Old Town at Agrasty is difficult to find,
but is a vivid memorial to a monumental crime: the massacre of 100,000 civilians by the Nazis during the war.
