Pudu
When someone mentions ‘Pudu’, the first thing that comes to the minds of most
locals would be the Puduraya Bus Terminal Station. Next would probably be the
Pudu Prison which is now closed and has reopened as a tourist attraction.
However, there is so much more to the Pudu area than just these two famous
landmarks. Pudu is essentially one of the older parts of Kuala Lumpur that
houses many pre-war shophouses as well as one of the largest wet markets in the
city, the Pudu Market. Although you won’t find many large modern shopping malls,
its main attraction are the rows of small shops selling all sorts of things you
can think of such as electronic equipments, watches, toys and etc. It is a great
place if you have the time to take a leisurely stroll and check out these
specialty shops. You never know what you may find, actually. Don’t be surprised
if you come across priceless antiques or valuable old watches.
Food in Pudu is basically the no-frills hawker style that is both cheap and easy
to find day and night. A popular spot is Jalan Sayur Food Street that offers a
good variety of Chinese food such as seafood noodle, fried lor bak gau, Chee
Cheong Fun and Nyonya cakes among others. The price is reasonable and the best
thing is the stalls are open from 6pm till late night. You may also want to try
the herbal tea stalls and the desserts. Simply delicious.
For
budget accommodation, you cannot go wrong with
Citin
Hotel Pudu Kuala Lumpur which is located just across the Puduraya Bus
Terminal. This 2-star hotel offer clean, basic rooms with modern amenities all
for a starting rate of RM110 (USD32) which a great bargain. Its winning feature
would be its fantastic location which allows you to walk on foot to many nearby
areas such as Bukit Bintang, Chinatown and Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman. Surrounded
by numerous restaurants and stalls, you can literally find food 24-7.
