Kuantan
The capital city of Pahang
isn't as blessed with historical attractions as the other towns in
Malaysia, but it more than makes up for this with its excellent access
to some clean, picturesque beaches and the great seafood on offer
in the various restaurants around town.

Charah Caves (Gua Charah)
Located 25km northwest
of Kuantan, these limestone caves are famed for being home ot a revered
Buddhist sanctuary, which draws many devout Buddhists on meditation
retreats. The caves themselves are open for exploration, including
one that houses a reclining Buddha sculpture. Nearby in Panching
Cave, there is another, much bigger reclining Buddha statue.

Chini Lake (Tasik Chini)
Located about 100 km south
of Kuantan, these are the only major natural fresh-water lakes in
Malaysia. The lakes themselves have been the object of legends for
centuries, including that an ancient Khmer city lies at its bottom.
The surrounding area is popular for nature hikes, while the lake itself
is suitable for boating and fishing.
