Kuala Terengganu Central Market

Located in the heart of Kuala Terengganu, this two storey market is known for its wide and cheap variety of foods, local handicrafts and all the other odds and ends of everyday life. For locals, it is best known for being a very good source of local Terengganu culinary specialties such as nasi dagang. For foreigners who may be squeamish at trying local foods (especially when overlooking a wet market), it's still a good place for some local colour.

Bad Stone Beach (Pantai Batu Buruk) and the Cultural Centre (Gelanggang Seni)

Pantai Batu Buruk is a popular beach with the locals (though do note that the dress requirements for Terengganu beaches are significantly more modest). Visitors curious about the local culture can visit the nearby Cultural Center, where you can try your hand at traditional games and pastimes every day.

Terengganu State Museum

If you're interested in learning the ancient history of Terengganu, this is the place to go - the museum has a fine collection of artifacts from as far back as the Stone Age, to the Malay Classical period, all the way up the the 19th century.

Pulau Duyong

Just five minutes by boat from the Kuala Terengganu waterfront, this island is famous for its master boat-builders, who specialize in hand-made wooden crafts, mostly yachts. Wealthy clients have come from around the world to commission boats from the builders here, whom you can watch while they work. If you can afford it, you can even order one yourself!

Rhusila & Suterasemai Centre

For those who appreciate handcrafted items, either as souvenirs or as works of arts in themselves, there are two handicraft centres for visiting: Rhusila, located about 10 km from Kuala Terengganu, is noted for its rattan baskets, mats and other such products, while the Suterasemai Centre at Kuala Ibai, about 6 km from Kuala Terrenganu, is a famous centre for silk-weaving and batik-dyeing.

Rantau Abang Visitors' Centre

The rare leatherback turtles are one of the most endangered turtle species in the world, and the Rantau Abang beach is one of the few places in the world where they are known to nest. The Rantau Abang Visitors' Centre is dedicated to educating the public about these magnificent sea creatures, and regularly shows has a documentaryon the turtle and its nesting habits.

Kenyir Dam

Created when Malaysia's largest hydro-electric dam first became operational, this is the biggest lake in Malaysia, and is popular for fishing, jungle trekking and other nature-oriented activities.
