Old Quarter
The old quarter in
Fes is often considered on of the most picturesque and timeless
of all such areas in cities throughout Morocco, and one of the
most popular - or at least, most common - ways to explore the
area is to get lost here. The old quarter is noted for the many
traditional businesses still operating here, most of them
grouped by trade onto particular streets, such as
the bakers street,
or the metal-smith's lane, or most traditionally and pungently
of all, the tanneries at the Souq Dabbaghin. The last one is a
spectacular sight, but those with tender stomachs may want to
consider taking perfume along to hide the smell.
