Rabat: Things To See & Do
|
The Kasbah
Once the capital of ancient
Rabat, the Kasbah is today a quiet residential area. It is popular with
visitors for the sheer picturesqueness of the area, and among its most
charming attractions are the arched gate which gives entry into the
Kasbah, the palace of Moulay Ismail and the city's oldest Mosque.

Palace Museum
Once the home of Moulay Ismail,
this lovely palace is today home to the city's Museum of Moroccan Arts and
contains beautiful pieces of Berber jewellery, intricately woven carpets,
embroidered clothing and more.

Mausoleum of Mohammed V
One of the most important
monuments in Rabat, this mausoleum houses the remains of one of Morocco's
greatest sultans, who lies entombed in a white onyx tomb surrounded by
guards. Even today, people come to the mausoleum to pay homage. Opposite the
mausoleum is the Hassan Mosque, once intended to be the biggest prayerhouse
in Rabat and largely destroyed in an earthquake in 1755, except for its
towering minaret.
