This popular event sees many major monuments opening to the public free of charge, and usually with guided tours. Some displays can only be seen during this time.

Commemoration Day

4 May

Not an official holiday, on this day at 8 pm two minutes of silence is observed throughout the city to honour the victims of World War II.

International Half Marathon

13 May

Starting from the Markt Maastricht, this race winds through the city and is popular with both locals and foreign athletes.

Christmas Market

15 - 31 December

Held at Vrijthof Square and the Dominican Church, this ancient market offers both traditional wares to celebrate the season and some new toys for the modern child.
