Caves of Mount St. Pieter

Quarrying work for the marl stones for buildings over the years have left thousands of passages in the rock. Used as shelter during the many sieges endured by Maastricht through the years, it now offers a unique landmark for visitors today. The cold temperatures of about 9-10 degrees Celsius here means that you ought to bring along warm clothing.

Cruises on the Maas River

A round trip with views of Mount St. Pieter all the way up to Ternaaien on the Belgian border.

Fort St. Pieter

Built on the northern tip of Mount St. Pieter, this historical fort was built in the early part of the 18th century. On a clear day, the location offers commanding views of the city and its surrounding countryside.

Helpoort

The only city gate remaining in Maastricht, and the oldest standing in the Netherlands. It was built in 1229 and served as the fortification for the southern front of the city’s fortifications until a new set of fortifications were built further out as the city grew.

Basilica of Our Lady

Oldest Catholic church in Maastricht, its treasure house holds a collection of religious relics and tapestries.

St. Servatius Basilica

The wealthy relics of St. Servaas form a collection of treasures that is Maastricht’s most cherished. St. servaas was the first Bishop appointed for the Low Countries (Netherlands and Belgium).
