Stavanger: Things To See & Do
|
Pulpit Rock
Stavanger's most popular
attraction, and one of Norway's most profound. Take the time to make the
2 hr trek out to this rock jutting far out into space, almost 604 metres
above the sea below. Come for the feeling of being on top of the world,
with the horizon spread out as far as the eye can see...

Battle of Hafrsfjord Memorial
In 872 AD, Fairheaded Harald
Hårfagre fought, in what became known as the battle of Hafrsfjord, to
unite Norway into one kingdom. In tribute to that battle, these
three gigantic bronze swords were designed by Fritz Røed and set in
place in 1983.

Gamle Stavanger
Stavanger's old town quarter
harkens back to the days when most of the towns buildings were made of
timber (actually still common now). Most of the houses in the Gamle are
particularly pretty examples of their type, and the area houses a number
of local artisans selling everything from ceramics to knives.

|
Iron Age Farm at Ullandhaug
If you're interested in
Scandinavian prehistory, come to this site just outside Stavanger, where
you'll find the reconstructed buildings of a prehistoric farm that once
existed here, complete with turf roof and the original hearths.
|
|
Waterfront Wharf Houses
Similar to Bergen's colourful
waterfront houses, these 60 preserved warehouses, half-timbered and gabled,
are a pretty sight.
