Doha: Things To See & Do

The Corniche

Doha Fort

Qatar National Museum

Entertainment City

The Palm Tree Island

Umm Salal Mohammed

Al-Wakrah

Al-Khor

The Corniche

This 7km promenade on the edge of Doha Bay is the city's most popular recreational ground, where both locals and tourists come to jog, stroll, picnic or just enjoy the night air. Just off the Corniche are children's play areas, restaurants, a market, rides and other attractions.

Doha Fort

Built in the 1880s, this fort that once saw battle during the Turkish occupation is now a popular attraction, not only for its history but for the elegant traditional architecture used in its construction.

Qatar National Museum

Once the official palace of Sheik Abdullah bin Qassim in the early part of the 20th century, this lovely museum chronicles the history of the nation and its people, with displays relating to everything from the early days of pearl diving to the musical instruments used by the local performers.

Entertainment City

Located in the West Bay area, this is one of Qatar's most popular theme parks, with over a dozen games, rides and attractions available for everyone.

The Palm Tree Island

Located 10 minutes by boat from the Doha Corniche, this is a popular day trip out.

Umm Salal Mohammed

A short drive outside Doha, this town is most notable for the remains of its ancient fort, which have left two rather attractive towers still standing in a green oasis.

Al-Wakrah

This little town 22 km from Doha offers a pleasant day trip out of the city, as it is a good place to see a traditional town. Much of the buildings here still preserve the traditional architecture, and the town still depends on its age-old industry: fishing. A walk in the harbour to see the wooden fishing dhows  come in is a popular activity.

Al-Khor

This pleasant town about 27 km from Doha is another popular day trip from the city. Much like Al-Wakrah, its main attraction is the beach, its promenade and, more uniquely, a number of watchtowers that still stand around the town.
