Jeddah: Things To See & Do
|
Corniche Road
The social heart of downtown
Jeddah is this scenic boulevard, which has the Red Sea on one side and
the clubs, restaurants and shops beloved of the fashionable crowd on the
other.

|
Souq Al-Alawi
Considered to be one of the best souqs in the kingdom,
this amazing and colourful street market covers a large area of the old
city, and is a great place to wander around looking for souvenirs and
bargains. Expect to bargain heatedly here!

Old
Jeddah
One of the last places in
cosmopolitan Jeddah that still retains the original atmosphere of the
quiet fishing village Jeddah once was, the Old Jeddah is still a
enclosed within old walls and is a labyrinth of tall houses, minarets
and squares. The oldest part of Jeddah is the area of Mahelat al
Madhloom in the northeast corner of the city, with its narrow streets,
mosques and ancient souqs, but the whole of Old Jeddah stretches over a
wide area and is an interesting place to wander around.

The
Red Sea
Snorkelling, diving,
swimming, cruising - for those more familiar with the desert activities
found in other parts of Arabia, the sheer wealth of water activities
available in Jeddah can be shocking. The city's position next to the Red
Sea makes it one of Arabia's great diving spots, especially as the reefs
off Jeddah are some of the most vibrant in the region.
