Port Elizabeth: Things To See & Do

Market Square
The historic heart of Port
Elizabeth is the square, which holds some of the most important
buildings in the city - the charming City Hall, the public library and
the Campanile with its magnificent view. The square also holds
historical monuments such as the Diaz Cross commemorating the first
Europeans to come in 1488, the Prester John Memorial dedicated to the
Portuguese explorers in South Africa.

Bayworld
Museum Complex
One of Port
Elizabeth's biggest tourist attractions, this complex includes the
Musuem, Oceanarium the Snake Park and No 7 Castle Hill Museum, the
oldest surviving settler cottage in the city. This is a great place to
go for both entertainment and to learn more about Port Elizabeth's
history and culture.

Beaches
Algoa Bay is known for
its magnificent beaches, and its has over 40 km of
glistening sand, perfect for swimming, surfing, diving and generally
relaxing. The most popular Beach is Hobie as it is closest to the city,
but drive a bit further away and visitors can find their own little
patch of sand to enjoy.

Addo Elephant Park
Located a little less than
an hour outside the city, this popular reserve has over 300 elephants in
residence, and is a great place to see these gentle giants in their
natural environment. The reserve is also home to rhinos, buffalo, zebra
and other large animals.
