Market Square

The historic heart of Port Elizabeth is the square, which holds some of the most important buildings in the city - the charming City Hall, the public library and the Campanile with its magnificent view. The square also holds historical monuments such as the Diaz Cross commemorating the first Europeans to come in 1488, the Prester John Memorial dedicated to the Portuguese explorers in South Africa.

Bayworld Museum Complex

One of Port Elizabeth's biggest tourist attractions, this complex includes the Musuem, Oceanarium the Snake Park and No 7 Castle Hill Museum, the oldest surviving settler cottage in the city. This is a great place to go for both entertainment and to learn more about Port Elizabeth's history and culture.

Beaches

Algoa Bay is known for its magnificent beaches, and its has over 40 km of glistening sand, perfect for swimming, surfing, diving and generally relaxing. The most popular Beach is Hobie as it is closest to the city, but drive a bit further away and visitors can find their own little patch of sand to enjoy.

Addo Elephant Park

Located a little less than an hour outside the city, this popular reserve has over 300 elephants in residence, and is a great place to see these gentle giants in their natural environment. The reserve is also home to rhinos, buffalo, zebra and other large animals.
