Magical Mediterranean at Alicante
There’s always something mystical about the areas
around the Mediterranean that fascinate me and many people around the world. Its
wine, place, weather and the population living
there always attract me. It may well have something to do with the
weather that attracts many tourists wanting to
visit the location.
One of the places to visit is the city of Alicante in Spain, well
known for its beautiful and stunning beaches and a place of dining. Boasting the
best climatic conditions in all of Spain, it is off little wonder that many
English, German and population from the Nordic countries call the place home and
tourists always flock there.
Enjoying Mediterranean weather where winters are mild and summer
is warm, makes the city of just over 300,000 people an ideal place to live.
Getting there is easy via flight where you can book a plane and
land at the El Atlet International which is 10km away from the city centre.
Tourists can also drive or take the train or even a ferry to Alicante.
If you cannot speak Spanish, bring a dictionary along to help you
understand the language to speak to the locals. Otherwise, you may want to pick
up some useful phrases such as Hola (hello), Por favor hable mas
despacio (Please speak more slowly), Puede escribirlo, por favor
(Please write it down) and Muchas gracias (thank you). However, most of
the Spanish people now speak a little English and you may not have a problem in
conversing with them.
Sandy
beaches
As mentioned, Alicante is famous for its beaches where the people
could laze around and relax from the hustle-bustle of their job and work on
their suntan. You will enjoy this time especially the sea breeze and the
freshness of the Mediterranean Sea and air which certainly revitalise you as you
holiday.
The beach stretches for kilometres and you are certainly spoilt
for choice of where to go and have a fun time. Among the most famous ones
frequent by tourists include the Playa Del Postiguet, Playa del Coco, Playa del
Albufereta, Playa de la Almadraba, Cabo de les Huertas and Playa de San Juan.
Playa Des Postiguet is located in the heart of the city and is a
popular spot for the city dwellers to relax and enjoy all year round. Playa de
San Juan, boasts the best white sandy beach in all of Alicante and nearby you
can also play golf making it a favourite destination for visitors who have
children as the beach is very safe. So bring along a suntan lotion to protect
yourself if you decide to spend more time on the beach.
Dine and
Wine
You are also spoilt for choice when you want to dine at Playa de
San Juan which is also famous for its restaurants along the coastline. I was
certainly spoilt for choice and once you go there you will see what I mean.
Near Alicante, you will also find the Algar waterfall which is
another favourite picnic spot for locals and tourists. Also known as Fonts de
Algar (Beautiful waterfalls), once you've climbed up after a short drive, you
will know why it got the name. The water comes from natural spring and people
usually swim at the natural pool which gives you a cool feeling after a hot
drive.
A visit to Alicante would not be complete if you do not go to the
historical Municipal museum. Built in the 17th century, the museum
exhibits the famous art works by Picasso, Miro and Gris.
The city is also well known for its concerts and festival like
the Bonfires of Saint John which takes place in the summer. A lively city
boasting its great night life, Alicante is the place to visit and stay generally
to relax and have a fun time.
