Leon: Things To See & Do

Leon Cathedral (Santa María de Regla)
The Collegiate Church of San Isidoro (Panteón y Museos de San Isidoro)

Leon Cathedral (Santa María de Regla)

Leon's cathedral is memorable for its spectacular stained glass windows. Numbering 125 and first created in the 13th century, these magnificent works of art depict various scenes from the Bible. The rest of the cathedral is noteworthy too, including a museum containing many works of church art, and the cloisters.

The Collegiate Church of San Isidoro (Panteón y Museos de San Isidoro)

Dedicated to San Isidoro de Sevilla in 1063, this church is noted for containing the tombs of 23 Leonese kings, as befits the former capital of the Christian Kingdom of Leon. It also houses church treasury that contains such treasures as a Book of Job from 951, a Visigothic Bible and many other rare items from the 10th to the 12th centuries.  The building itself is considered a magnificent structure, being one of the first Romanesque buildings in León.
