Marbella: Things To See & Do
|
Beaches
With 24 pristine beaches
within easy reach of the city, it's no wonder the main reason visitors
come to Marbella is to spend a day at the beach. Some of the more
popular (and crowded) beaches include Guadalmina, Linda Vista and San
Pedro De Alcantara, but there's plenty more to choose from.

The Boardwalk (Paseo
Marítimo)
Stretching over 6 km, a walk
along this promenade is one of those 'must-do' activities in Marbella.
With its palm-trees, odd shaped public showers, cafes and the constant
stream of vacationers and relaxing locals, there's always something to
see and do along this stretch.

Las Murallas del Castillo
Standing in the heart of the
old quarter is this ancient Arab castle, built in the 10th century
during the time when Marbella was under Moorish rule. Currently under
restoration, the inside of the castle is closed to the public, but
visitors can wander through the castle grounds.

|
Alameda Park (Parque de la Alameda)
This lovely park is
popular not only as a recreational spot, but is also noted for
containing half a dozen statues by the artist Salvador Dal.

Villa Romana de
Río Verde & Las Bovedas
Visitors interested in Roman
history may not want to miss this ancient villa, which dates back to the
1st and 2nd centuries. Recovery work on it began in the 1960s and much
of it has been uncovered, including some magnificent mosaics. Nearby are
the Roman Baths, colloquially
known as las bovedas, or the domes, which are all that remain of the Roman settlement known as Cilniana (or Silniana),
which was
destroyed by an earthquake in 365 A.D.
Visitors are welcome on a
free guided tour.
