National Celebration on the Rhine

31 July

The celebration to mark Switzerland’s National Day on 1st August takes place in Basel a day in advance. Over 100,000 people make their way to the watersport works and other spectacular highlights on the Rhine, the festival stalls on the banks and to the large firework display.

 

Basel Autumn Fair

25 October – 9 November

The Basel Autumn Fair is an experience for young and old, and more than your usual parish fair. It is held on seven squares in the city centre of Basel and in an exhibition hall. The numerous thrill rides, the culinary diversity from roasted almonds to the popular grilled sausages, or the colourful market on the Petersplatz offer something for every visitor.

 

Basel Christmas and Christmas Market

25 November – 23 December

In the heart of the city centre, nestled in the seasonally decorated historic Old Town, is the extremely attractive and atmospheric Christmas market. At around 140 brightly lit stalls and wooden houses, dealers and handicraft workers from across Switzerland and the region offer their wares or demonstrate their skills.
