This charming monument was built in 1934 to honour the heroism of Khun Ying Mo (affectionately known as Ya Mo), wife of Deputy Governor of Khorat during the reign of King Rama III, who saved the city from a Laotian invasion. The statue itself is the focal point of an annual celebration (March 23 to April 3) commemorating the victory.

The Big Buddha

Samui's most popular attraction, The Big Buddha sitting 15 meters tall was built in 1972 by the local society to give visitors a place to pay respect to The Lord Buddha. This monumental landmark is placed on the island's Northern shore.

Granfather and Grandmother Rocks (Hin Ta & Hin Yai)

Samui's phallic rocks are as popular with Thai visitors as foreigners. Meaning Grandfather Rock and Grandmother Rock respectively, in local legend the rocks represent two doomed lovers who drowned themselves in the sea here, because their families disapproved of their relationship.
A large board at the site tells their story in full dramatic detail. The street approaching the rocks is lined with stalls selling a nice range of coconut wood products and garamear - Samui's own glutinous coconut candy, which is rarely available elsewhere on the island.
