Roman Baths and Pump Room

Built approximately 2000 years ago and fed by a warm spring, the Baths are now a museum. Visitors can explore the collection of items Pious Romans through into the bath waters, or sample the spa water from the elegant pump fountain.

Personal guides are available for special tours of up to 25 people at an extra charge.The Roman Baths is not wheelchair accessible. However, wheelchair users are admitted free to the Terrace overlooking the Great Bath.Free audio tours are available in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Japanese and Mandarin. Hourly tours of the Roman Baths are free.

The Museum of Costume

Clothing from around the world dating from the 16th century to modern day is on display in Bath's Museum of Costume. Situated in the basement of the Assembly Rooms in Bennett Street, the museum specialises in clothing and accessories from Bath's Georgian era.

 


Bath Abbey

Though the present building was founded in 1499, Bath Abbey is built on a site of religious importance dating back to the 4th century. Once the great church of a monastery, the Abbey is known for its magnificent architecture.

Sally Lunn’s Restaurant

One of Bath’s most famous gastronomic attractions is the Sally Lunn Buns, first created by a young French refugee and now a must-do item on the city’s tourist route.

 


Beckfords Tower

In 1827, wealthy eccentric William Beckford built the Tower to use as a banqueting house and library for his collection of rare books and art. Today, visitors can climb to the tower top to enjoy a panoramic view of the city.

 


 

Royal Crescent

The Royal Crescent area is widely considered to epitomise the grandeur of 18th century Palladian architecture. Visitors can enjoy a glimpse into the former home of, among others, the Duke of York, son of George III.

 


Jane Austen Centre

The Jane Austen Centre is a new permanent exhibition, dedicated to the story of Jane Austen's experiences in Bath and the effect that living in the city had on her writing. The exhibits showcase some of her finest works.

Stonehenge

Probably the most famous ancient stone monument of the western world, visitors can make the short journey to the Salisbury Plains to view the stones, and wonder at the mystery surrounding them.

 


Gardens and Parks

There are 14 parks and gardens for the visitor to choose from, each with unique attractions and delights — for example, Alexander Park is known for some of the best views of Bath, the Botanical Gardens has a fine collection of plants on limestone and Beazer’s Garden is beloved by children for its Maze.

 


 

Holbourne Museum of Arts

Known as "one of the most perfect small museums of Europe", the museum showcases former Bath resident Sir Thomas Holburne’s collection of 17th and 18th century decorative and fine art.

William Herschel Museum

The lives of siblings William and Catherine Herschel in the 18th century are honoured in this unique Georgian museum. Dedicated to the many achievements of the Herschels, the museum tells the story of the telescope maker who first saw Uranus and the woman who discovered no less than eight comets.

Longleat Safari Park

This safari park gathers together some of the world's most magnificent animals, including elephants, tigers, wolves, rhinos and lions. The animals all roaming freely, while people must remain in their cars.

Castle Combe

Voted the “Prettiest Village in England”, Castle Combe is tucked away in a lovely valley within easy reach of Bath. The Castle is well known internationally as it has made appearances in numerous famous films.

Take Junction 17 (Chippenham) or Junction 18 (Bath) off the M4 and then follow the signs. Bus runs from Chippenham Bus Station (5 miles away) to Castle Combe Monday-Friday 10am to 5.10pm

 


 

The American Museum

Just a short distance outside Bath, this museum gives an idea of what life was like in America prior to the mid-1800s.
