St Martin's Church

First built as a Roman church in the 4th century and renamed after St Martin, Bishops of Tours in France after Queen Bertha began worshipping here, this church is has been the site of Christian worship since 597 AD, making it the oldest such site in the country. It is also linked to St Augustine's Abbey nearby.

St Augustine's Abbey

The ruins of St Augustine's Abbey is one of the more popular attractions in Canterbury. Founded by one of the first Roman Catholic missions to the pagan lands of the British isles, the monastery that once stood here was a major foundation for the Christian faith, though it gradually lost prominence over the centuries, and was left to fall into ruin until it reached its present state today. Together with the St Martin's Church, it forms part of Canterbury's UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Canterbury Tales

Take part in a merry reenactment of 14th century England at this highly popular show, where Geoffrey Chaucer's tales come to life.

Greyfriars

Dating back to the 13th century, this is the oldest Franciscan building in Britain the sole remaining Greyfriars friary. The building now houses an extensive Franciscan exhibition, and is a nice way to learn about this once influential order.

Dane John Gardens

Commonly considered one of the best parks in the country, this is a pleasant place to spend a summer's day, particularly as many outdoor fairs and events are held here. On the weekends in summer, there is often a band concert and in November, the Christmas Euromarket  is held here.

Museum of Canterbury

Learn more about the history of Canterbury at this popular museum, which has a particularly excellent collection of Roman and Medieval artifacts. There are also some less weighty exhibitions, in particular the Rupert Bear Museum, which is popular with children.
