Inverness: Things To See & Do
|
Loch Ness
The
second-largest lake in Scotland, unsettlingly deep and dark, and
infamous home of the Nessie monster, this 37km long loch in the Great
Glen attracts thousands of visitors every year, most taking part in
Nessie tours, or at least enjoying the lovely scenery hereabouts.

|
|
Urquhart Castle
One of Scotland's largest
castles in its time, though now only one tower still stands, this is
also one of the most recognizable castles in the country, given its
charming location on the shores of Loch Ness. It is, understandably, one
of the most popularly photographed castles in Scotland. |

Dolphin-cruises out in the Moray
Firth
Scotland is one of the most
northerly points where you can still see dolphins, and the cruises out
to Moray Firth are a popular activity.
|
|
|
Culloden Moor
The last major battle of
Great Britain was fought here on 16 April, 1746, and was a major turning
point in the nation's history, as the Scottish Jacobites were decisively
defeated by the English. There's a visitor's centre with an interesting
collection of items from the period, but most evocative of all is the
battlefield itself, where memorials and clan graves lie. |
